FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD....

Gone are the days of tapioca pudding, liver and onions and, more recently thanks to Jamie Oliver, turkey twizzlers.

Our school caters for children from 8am to 5.30pm and, naturally, they get hungry in between.

As a maintained school, we have a duty to deliver against the Statutory School Food Standards (2015) which specify what can and cannot be provided to pupils whilst on the school premises. It is the statutory responsibility of the governing body to ensure the School Food Standards and other food legislation are being met and to promote a culture and ethos of healthy eating.

A great school food culture improves children's long-term health and academic performance.

A child’s healthy, balanced diet should consist of:

  • plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • plenty of unrefined starchy foods
  • some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein
  • some milk and dairy foods
  • a small amount of food and drink high in fat, sugar and salt

No matter what the source of food consumed on the premises is, it should reflect the ambition that ALL options available to children are healthy and balanced, with limited access to foods high in sugar, fat and heavily-processed ingredients.

Our School Food policy (2023) - see below - reflects this and draws together previous general policies around snacks, etc into one document. It covers all food and drink provided to pupils whilst they are at school.

Click the images below for practical guidance on how the policy is implemented on a  day-to-day basis and what can and cannot be sent to school from home.
