FIR ENDS CURRICULUM - learning from Early Years to Year 6

At Fir Ends we aim to offer a broad learning offer, based on the national curriculum and reflecting the resources we have available locally. To achieve this, we have selected schemes and resources that help us to deliver each curriculum subject. Using these ensures that pupils experience a variety of approaches - good experience for secondary school and later life!

On this page you can find links to the resources we use in day-to-day teaching, as well as long-term curriculum maps for each subject and class.

Further information on delivery of each subject is available on the curriculum information page here.

CLASSROOM CURRICULUM BY TERM

The year is divided into three terms; autumn, spring and summer. There is a Year A and Year B plan, reflecting the two-year rolling programme to accommodate mixed-age classes.

Below are examples of how the individual subject curriculum translates into a plan for a term. As this is a new format for publishing classroom plans, starting Spring B 2023, more will be added as content is copied across from the subject grids ahead of each term.

SUBJECT CURRICULUM PROGRESSION BY TERM

As we have mixed-age classes, curriculum delivery follows a two-year rolling programme; Year A & B. This can present some challenges for pupils but staff are able to effectively differentiate work so that age is not a barrier.

Each National Curriculum programme has a progression map. Whilst the EY Framework does not list specific subjects, where appropriate progression maps include content to be delivered during Reception to support transition to Year 1. EYFS now follow the schemes of work for phonics, writing and mathematics that are used in KS1 and beyond. This ensures that pupils are familiar with approaches and vocabulary when the reach year 1.
