The deadline for applications for 2025 entry to Reception was 15th January 2025. Any applications received after this date will be treated as late applications.
Applications for September 2026 admission to Reception must be made by 15 January 2026 and the application window will open in September 2025.
To the right, you will find links to The Local Authority admissions web page to enable you to apply for a place at our school online.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A PLACE AT FIR ENDS
We recommend that any application starts with a visit to the school. Please contact the office to arrange a suitable time for this visit.
- NURSERY applications can be completed as digital documents and emailed to SBM@fir-ends.cumbria.sch.uk or printed and completed by hand. Alternatively, contact the office - or just pop in - and we can give you a copy to complete onsite!
- RECEPTION starters should apply via the Local Authority systems, naming Fir Ends as their first choice. The closing date is January 15th.
- For 'In-year starters', parents should contact the school to find out if a place is available and arrange a visit. If there is a place available, an application via the local authority can usually be arranged within 2-3 working days.
Below you can find our general admissions policy for the next academic intake year, 2024-25.
The school will open a consultation on admission arrangements for 2026/27 during the 2024 Autumn term.
IN YEAR PLACE APPLICATIONS
Outside the annual window for applications for Reception places, parents can enquire about 'in-year' applications for other year groups at any time.
Our Pupil Admissions Number (PAN) for each year group is 15, and where this number has already been reached the Governing Body will consider applications on a case-by-case basis and whether it is practical to exceed this. Generally, this will only be considered in KS2 classes. KS2 is not limited to classes of 30 pupils, whereas KS1 cannot exceed 30 by law, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
As a Foundation School, our Governing Body are the Admissions Authority.
The Local Authority Admissions Department can indicate if a place may be available, but are not in a position to offer a place without prior agreement from the GB.
In practice this is delegated to the Headteacher, who will typically be able to inform you if a place can be offered at the time of your application.
