NURSERY & EARLY YEARS
Our Early Years unit is an important part of our school - it's where everything else begins, after all.
Our aim is to prepare children for the expectations of 'big school' through the development of early writing, reading and number skills, in line with the Early Years Framework, whilst still maintaining a play-led ethos. Children also learn the routines and expectations of the main school so that when they join Year one they're ready to thrive.
Children in Nursery and Reception are taught holistically, side-by-side, ensuring that as soon as our Nursery pupils decide they're ready to start learning, they can!
THE RIGHT START, FROM THE START
Every child deserves the best start in life, with the right support and encouragement to become an independent learner.
Fir Ends School & Nursery is a warm and welcoming setting for children aged 3+ where we are committed to ensuring that every child is ready for learning when they start ‘big school’.
Within our small, mixed nursery and reception class, experienced and passionate staff work closely with each individual to give them a flying start within a stimulating and nurturing family-led environment.
INDOORS AND OUTDOORS
We believe that children learn best when they are able to explore and experience their world.
We’re lucky to have expansive grounds, and make the most of them whatever the weather - wellies are part of the uniform!
HOURS TO SUIT WORKING LIFE
We offer wraparound provision in term time from 8am to 5.30pm, enabling parents to plan attendance around their working hours.
We can offer parents flexibility to allocate your funded entitlement within our 47.5 hour week.

Places are available now in our nursery and reception cohorts.
Find out more about our school at www.fir-ends.cumbria.sch.uk or call us or send a message using the form on this page to arrange a visit
FUNDING FOR NURSERY PLACES
We offer provision under both the 15-hour and 30-hour Free Entitlement Funding (FEF) arrangements - to find out which one you qualify for, and to apply, visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
It is also possible for Nursery pupils to access our Breakfast Club from 8:00 and our After School Club until 17:30; this means your FEF hours can be used from 8:00 to 5:30 each day in a way that suits your childcare needs.
We do have limited capacity for this age range however, so please check beforehand.
Nursery charges beyond your FEF entitlement are £4:50 per hour and hot, nutritious lunches can be provided for a reasonable cost; collecting a full child at lunchtime is much better than an empty one!
If you'd like to find out more about our excellent nursery provision the best way to do so is to contact the school office to arrange a visit and see it in action!
This is also a great opportunity to ask all the pressing questions that a written prospectus can't answer.
