INAUGURAL POTATO CUP30 March 2022 (by Daryl Spencer (darylspencer)) |
Training green fingers
In the summer we had some excellent new planters delivered to upgrade the raised beds that were mostly home to weeds.
To start the growing season, each class has been given six second early 'potato eggs' and given the task of growing as many potatoes as they can from them. They've been given no instructions, other than 'they go in the soil' - they have to work it all out themselves, drawing upon expertise they can glean from research and asking questions at home!
Whichever class grows the most will win the Potato Cup.
Year 3&4 are the first to get theirs in the soil.
Other boxes will be used to grow salad crops this year - hopefully we'll be able to use this at lunchtimes in future, alongside homegrown rhubarb and all the apples and plums that our trees produce!
